Run in the Country, Coburg, OR

This is a beautiful, flat 1/2 marathon! It runs around Coburg, Oregon, and it really is running in the country. I rode to Wendy's house with Michael on Saturday evening, and Michael and Wendy did the early walker start at 6:00 a.m., and I did the runner start at 7:00 a.m., so I got in a couple extra miles before my start.

Here are some pics, getting ready for the walker start:
And they're off! I followed a short ways, then did a zigzag route to meet the race on the main road:
Just past the first mile, was the first of many beautiful wheat fields. The sun was not quite up yet, when I took these pics:
I don't know a lot of Coburg history, but there are some beautiful, HUGE trees all over the place. This big leaf maple stump had burls that were almost 3' tall!
On the run now, the sun is up on the wheat field!
Some views from the Run in the Country; I tried to get all the mile markers, but #1 and #9 just were not there!
After finishing, I met Michael and Wendy at the finish. And Deborah and a friend of hers came to meet us, too. We watched the kids race -- they are fast! Then back to Wendy's for a shower and some scones/pizza then Michael brought me home. A beautiful day to see part of Oregon!

July 4 - Happy 27th Anniversary!

What better thing to do on a 4th of July anniversary on the weekend than do a long dayhike? We drove to Elk Lake in the Cascades to start a big loop with an out-and-back in the middle. We climbed Battle Axe Mountain to where the fire lookout foundations are for lunch, then down to Twin Lakes and back to Elk Lake on the other side of Battle Axe Mountain.

I took hundred of pics, but blogspot is getting slower and slower putting them up, so here are just a few:
